“Finding the voice in every learner.”

The Educator

Literacy that reaches the readers schools keep missing.

Science of Reading consulting and coaching for secondary ELA, built for the students too often left behind.

The Vocalist

A voice shaped on stages around the world.

A professional vocalist and recording artist, available for events, services, and celebrations.

Who I Am

One person, two lifelong callings — and a single thread running through both: helping people be heard.

I’m Dr. Melissa Leonard Goodlett — an educator with more than twenty years in classrooms from early childhood through college, a former AP Language instructor, and a professional vocalist who has performed around the world.

My consulting work helps secondary schools close real literacy gaps for Black and Brown students using the Science of Reading. My voice has carried me from international stages to the most meaningful moments in people’s lives. Different rooms, same purpose: giving voice where it’s needed most.

Consulting for Schools & Districts

How I partner with the educators doing the hardest work.

i.

Science of Reading for Secondary Classrooms

Practical, job-embedded training that brings structured literacy into middle and high school ELA — with culturally relevant strategies designed for adolescent learners who have disengaged from reading.

ii.

Instructional Coaching & Teacher Confidence

Coaching that closes the confidence gap keeping many teachers from implementing structured literacy with fidelity — built on the belief that teachers grow fastest when supported, not evaluated.

iii.
Signature Offering

The AP Access & Equity Pathway

Drawing on direct AP Language and active AP Reader experience, I help schools widen access to AP English — the vertical alignment, referral practices, and reading and writing preparation underrepresented students need to enroll, persist, and succeed.

iv.

Literacy Leadership & Accountability

Support for principals and district leaders connecting literacy investment to state accountability indicators and measurable outcomes — including a 90-day action-planning framework to move from data to results.

On Stage & In Service

The Voice

A professional vocalist and former Sony/BMI recording artist, I bring decades of performance experience to the moments that matter most.

Whether it’s a celebration, a service, or a stage, I’m honored to lend my voice to the occasion.
